Example 1: “Yoga and meditation help build emotional resilience.” Example 2: “His resilience allowed him to overcome the challenges of a demanding job.” Immunization Definition: The process of making a person immune to a disease, typically through vaccination. Example 1: “Immunization campaigns have significantly reduced the prevalence of certain diseases.” Example 2: “Make sure to get your flu immunization before the start of the flu season.” Epidemic Definition: The rapid spread of a disease that affects a large number of people within a specific community or region. Example 1: “The government took swift action to contain the COVID-19 epidemic.” Example 2: “The flu epidemic resulted in a surge of hospital admissions.” Pandemic Definition: An outbreak of a disease that occurs over a wide geographic area and affects an exceptionally high proportion of the global population. Example 1: “The Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 had devastating consequences worldwide.” Example 2: “COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020.” Inoculate Definition: To introduce a vaccine or a disease agent into the body to produce immunity to a specific disease. Example 1: “The nurse will inoculate the children against measles at the health center.” Example 2: “Before traveling to certain regions, it’s essential to be inoculated against specific diseases.” Antibiotics Definition: Medications used to treat bacterial infections by killing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria. Example 1: “The doctor prescribed antibiotics to treat the patient’s sinus infection.” Example 2: “Overusing antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, making infections harder to treat.” Symptomatic Definition: Having or showing symptoms of a particular disease or medical condition. Example 1: “In the early stages, COVID-19 can be asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.” Example 2: “She decided to stay home when she felt symptomatic to avoid spreading the flu.” Chronic Definition: Persisting for a long time or constantly recurring. Example 1: “Chronic stress can have adverse effects on both physical and mental health.” Example 2: “He manages his chronic pain through a combination of medication and physical therapy.” Terminal Definition: Relating to a disease or condition that cannot be cured and is likely to lead to death. Example 1: “The patient was diagnosed with terminal cancer and entered hospice care.” Example 2: “Despite her terminal illness, she remained positive and focused on making the most of her time.” Rehabilitation Definition: The process of restoring someone’s health and abilities after an illness or injury. Example 1: “After surgery, he underwent a period of rehabilitation to regain mobility.” Example 2: “The rehabilitation center provides specialized care for stroke patients.” Remission Definition: A period during which the symptoms of a disease are reduced or disappear. Example 1: “The prognosis for the patient’s recovery is positive.” Example 2: “The doctor discussed the long-term prognosis with the patient and their family.” Genetic Definition: Relating to genes or heredity, particularly regarding the inheritance of certain traits or diseases. Example 1: “Certain cancers have a strong genetic component.” Example 2: “Genetic testing can identify the risk of developing certain conditions.” Preventive Definition: Intended to stop something undesirable from happening; measures taken to avoid illness or disease. Example 1: “Regular exercise and a healthy diet are essential for preventive health.” Example 2: “Vaccination is one of the most effective preventive measures against infectious diseases.” Palliative Definition: Relieving pain or alleviating the symptoms of a disease without curing it. Example 1: “The palliative care team focuses on improving the patient’s quality of life.” Example 2: “Palliative treatments aim to manage pain and discomfort in terminally ill patients.” Recovery Definition: The process of returning to a normal or healthy state after an illness or injury.
