CEFR Vocabulary for IELTS

CEFR Vocabulary for IELTS

Improving your vocabulary for IELTS is essential if you’re looking to get a good result. In our online course, our IELTS vocabulary section is divided into 6 sections, from Beginner (CEFR Level A1) right through to Advanced (CEFR Level B2). Here’s an example of just some of the language you can learn as a full member of our course.

The vocabulary below is from CEFR Level B2 (high intermediate).

Tips for using these vocabulary lists:

look carefully through the list to make sure you know the words and are confident that you can use them in your written or spoken English.
look up the meaning of any new words and put them in a sentence.
make a handwritten note of any new words, ideally in a separate note pad that you carry with you. Whenever you have a few minutes – waiting for a bus, just before going to sleep, waiting for the kettle to boil – take out the list and look through, reminding yourself of the word and the meaning.
write the new word a number of times – writing down vocabulary will help you remember it and will also help with spelling.

Another good technique is to type the word into Google and read the example sentences in the search results.
