About the writing assessment
How does the writing assessment work?
You can send us up to two complete writing tests for personalised assessment (that’s 2 x Task 1 and 2 x Task 2). When you are logged in to the course, you will see a link to submit your writing to us. We will then correct and comment on your work, as well as make recommendations for what to do to further improve.
How do I get feedback about my test? How long does it take?
We will return your work as a Word Document, with corrections on the right hand side and comments, recommendations and an estimated band score below each task. We aim to return written work within 48 hours of receipt.
Do you assess handwritten work?
Yes, we do. You can scan and send your written work as a pdf or image file and we will assess it. However, you may need to give us a day or two longer to get handwritten work back to you as it takes longer to assess.
How will I know what to write about?
You need to use one of the practice tests from inside the course. The reason for this is that there are ‘IELTS writing topics’ on many websites on the internet that are actually NOT the style that IELTS will ever ask, so to make sure you are writing about an authentic type of writing test, use the tests in the course. However, if you have a specific topic you would like to write about that is not in the course, send it to us first so we can confirm whether it is a valid IELTS style writing question.
Additional IELTS writing assessments
If you would like to have more written work assessed beyond what is included in your membership, you can enrol for this as an additional service.
About the speaking assessment
How does the speaking assessment work?
First you book your appointment through the members area. Then, at the time you have requested, we will contact you on Skype to conduct the speaking assessment, which takes approximately 15 minutes. Straight after the assessment, your personal tutor will spend a few minutes putting together their notes about your speaking practice, then will call you back for a feedback session (this also takes about 15 minutes). We will tell you your strengths and weaknesses, and make recommendations for further improvement. You also have the chance to ask any questions you may have.
Do I need to call you? Will you call me on a mobile device?
We use Skype for the speaking assessments, which can be downloaded onto a mobile device, but we do not call telephone numbers.
When can I book my appointment for the speaking?
You can book any time between 8am and 7pm New Zealand time. You need to let us know your required date and time at least 48 hours in advance. Once you have booked your appointment, we will email back to confirm – it is then your responsibility to be online and ready at the time of the booking. If you are not online within 5 minutes of the arranged time, we will reschedule your appointment one more time.
